Product photography FAQs

How is product photography charged?

It’s always best to speak with your product photographer to find out exactly what they’ll charge and what this includes. Product photography fees vary and depend on

  • The type of product photos you’re looking to get. Is it a complex hero photo for advertising campaigns or do you need to photograph 200 products for an ecommerce website?
  • How many shots you need
  • Image usage. Are the photos intended for editorial or commercial usage? Are you advertising and if so what types of advertising? Some photographers will give specific rights for the images while others will just factor this generally into their pricing.
  • Production costs and post production. Do you need the images cut out? Will you require retouching? Are there additional studio costs involved?

What does post production cover in product photography?

Again, it’s best to agree on this with your photographer in advance. At its very basic, post production will usually mean colour and brightness adjustments to ensure all images are optimised and displaying colours correctly. More complex post production could include product cutouts. Retouching of imperfections or scratches, adding reflections and compositing different elements together. Post production work can take anything from a few minutes per image to spending days on a single image and costs can vary accordingly.

What are cutouts shots?

A cutout is when the background is removed and you get a photo of your product with a transparent background around it. This gives control on the image and you can either “place the product” on any background in photoshop or put it on 100% white for clean ecommerce shots. Websites like Amazon will often require images are supplied with 100% white backgrounds.

What is remote product photography and how does it work?

Many product photographers will offer remote sessions. This means you can expand your search to work with photographers in any location, as long as your products can be delivered to their studio. The photographer will tether the camera to their computer. This means the images are shot directly to the computer and appear on the screen as they are shot. You can view all the photos remotely and communicate with your photographer remotely giving comments and suggestions for all the products.

You can book Product photoshoots by clicking on the photographers profiles above to view galleries and to contact them driectly prices, information and bookings.
